All About Manila

Manila is the capital of the Philippines. It is located in the island of Luzon, one of the 3 island groups of the Philippines. Manila is highly urbanized now and is one of the most populated cities in the world.

Despite the urbanization of the city, Manila holds many historical gems in its hands. Many tourists come to visit these iconic landmarks to unveil the history of Manila (originally known as Maynilad).

Art Form

Tourists and locals visit popular historical landmarks and monuments in Manila to know more about the history of the Philippines. Since some architectural buildings were built a long time ago, some of these landmarks are fragments or remains of what’s left. Many landmarks and monuments sing stories of tragedy and fortune of the Philippines.

Rizal Park

Rizal Park is one of the go-to’s in Philippines because it feature one of the most important events in the history of Philippines. The execution of Dr. Jose Rizal, a Philippine National Hero, was done in this very park. His statue and remains are located in the park as well.

The Rizal Monument, a bronze sculpture of Dr. Jose Rizal, was built by Richard Kissling. Kissling is a swiss sculptor that won the second runner up for the design competition and received the contract to sculpt the monument because the first runner up failed to arrive at the designated date for signing the contract.

Fort Santiago also has some connections with Dr. Jose Rizal. This place was where Dr. Jose Rizal spend his last days imprisoned before being executed in the Rizal Park.

The Fort was a citadel that guarded the old city of Intramuros.

Fort Santiago was built by a Spanish Navigator and Governor, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, in 1593.

Many more monuments and landmarks attract many locals and tourists to visit and find more of the Philippines ‘ history.

These places contribute to the story telling of the Philippines’ history. Filipinos embrace the history the creates the culture of the Filipinos today. Without these landmarks and monuments, the Philippines would be a story without a flashback or an introduction of how things started. History contributes to the Philippines’ art letting people look back to where they’ve started. History also helps inspire people to make art. Thanks to these architectural historical sites, Philippines will always hold the story of its past.
